What to Do

Verona

Verona is a beautiful and compact city. Everywhere is easily walkable.

The Città Antica is a great place to wander around. The highlight is the Arena, a very well preserved 2000 year old Roman amphitheatre. Opera performances are still held here during the summer so you may like to book to go during your stay.

Piazza delle Erbe, overlooked by the Torre dei Lamberti, is the most impressive of Verona's many squares. It is also close to the very famous (and very busy!) 'Juliet Balcony'.

We also loved heading up to Castel San Pietro at sunset for amazing views and a really nice atmosphere. It can get quite busy so you may want to get there early.

Venice

Venice is around 1.5 hours from Verona by car or train.

It is a perfect place to visit on a day trip if you're on a tight schedule. Spend a night or two if you can and want to see more of the city.

The highlights are of course St Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco) and St Mark’s Basilica (Basilica di San Marco). Take a boat along the Grand Canal to see more of the city including the famous Rialto Bridge, and get a gondola ride for the full Venice experience.

Lake Garda

Lake Garda is an easy day trip from Verona.

Sirmione on the southern end is around 45 minutes by car or 1 hour by bus. In Sirmione you can visit the incredible Castello Scaligero and book a visit by boat to the beautiful Isola del Garda.

If you want to see the northern end of Lake Garda surrounded by mountains, Malcesine is around 1.5 hours by car and 2 hours by bus from Verona. Here you can take the cable car up Monte Baldo to get an even more impressive view of the lake and mountains.
